The Author

Werner Neff was born in Zurich, Switzerland. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin and a master’s degree in economics from the Universität St. Gallen. His professional career included leadership positions in the hospitality industry before moving into banking, where he specialized in small business lending and mortgage finance for one of Switzerland's leading banks.

After retiring in 2010, Werner and his American wife relocated to the United States. Inspired by his lifelong interest in democratic institutions and public policy, he began a second career as an author and political economist.

His books explore the principles of democracy, constitutional government, civic responsibility, and economic policy from a non-partisan perspective. Drawing on his European background and his experience living in the United States, he seeks to encourage informed citizenship, ethical leadership, and constructive dialogue among Americans who care about preserving and strengthening their constitutional republic.

Werner lives in Colorado with his wife and enjoys classical music, hiking, and skiing in the Rocky Mountains while continuing his research and writing on American democracy.

In Restore Trust: Economic Solutions to Current Social and Political Issues in the U.S., Neff turns his attention to the economic forces that shape public confidence in democracy. Drawing on his background as a political economist, he examines poverty, low wages, health care, retirement insecurity, political polarization, tax policy, and the widening divide between wealth and working people. The book argues that democracy cannot remain strong when economic structures leave too many citizens discouraged, dependent, or unheard.

His work combines historical fiction, political philosophy, economics, and dramatic dialogue to encourage thoughtful civic reflection rather than partisan debate. Across his books, Neff calls for renewed civic responsibility, ethical leadership, and a deeper understanding of the principles required to preserve a free and enduring republic.

His book Restore Our Democracy received the 2021 Independent Press Award for Political Commentary, and reviewers have described his work as “a stirring call to action” and “insightful, memorable, and thought-provoking.”

Neff writes as an immigrant who chose America, studied its founding principles with deep respect, and believes that an informed citizenry, ethical leadership, and restored public trust remain essential to the survival of American democracy.

He is the author of The Founders’ Warning, Democracy, Power, and the Survival of the American Republic, fictional dialogues of the Founding Fathers in 1789, 2020, and in 2040.
